Dermal Fillers

JUVEDERM | RESTYLANE

As we age we lose essential ‘scaffolding’ in the form of fat pads and minute particles of bone in our face. Combined with sun damage our skin becomes more susceptible to fine lines, wrinkles and can appear tired due to shadowing from loss of support structures. Hyaluronic acid (HA) and synthetic calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) fillers are used to add volume, smooth and sculpt your face. With a variety of HA and CaHA injectable gels, we can replace the firmness and structure that may have been lost over time, even out asymmetries or smooth unwanted lines and creases.

pre-treatment

  • Don’t take any blood thinning medications such as Aleve, Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin or Aspirin for one week prior to your visit, to reduce the chance of bruising.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 5 days prior and 3 days after your procedure, this helps prevent bruising and minimizes swelling.
  • Arrive at your appointment with a clean face (no makeup).
  • Do not arrive fasting.
  • Hydrate yourself beginning 1 day prior to appointment.
  • Eat a light snack .
  • IF you tend to faint with medical procedures, INFORM provider prior to procedure.

post-treatment

  • The injected area(s) can be swollen for up to 2 weeks with the majority of swelling subsiding in 3 days. In some cases, each side may appear uneven or bumpy at first, this will improve. Gentle massage with Arnica gel as instructed will help alleviate this. Do not panic, it’s all normal.
  • Apply clean ice pack to area for at least 30 minutes after injections, as explained in post procedure handout.
  • DON’T exercise or raise your heart rate for 48 hours after dermal filler procedure.
  • DON’T allow any pressure directly on injected sites and no down-face activities such as massage or yoga for 48 hours after dermal fillers.
  • When to call us: If you experience extreme or worsening swelling, bruising, pain, redness or blanching (paleness).

Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body and is reabsorbed over time. These types of dermal fillers can be reversed (dissolved) in worst-case scenarios.

Other dermal fillers are composed of either calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres or poly-L-lactic acid which increase the body’s production of collagen over time. These types of dermal fillers CANNOT be reversed (dissolved).

Facial fillers only add volume. They will NOT change the overall structure or fully correct asymmetry.

Dermal fillers do not correct pigmentation problems, especially under the eyes (dark circles), but they can help reduce shadowing from  grooves such as the tear trough.

Fine lines are often best corrected with combination therapy of fillers, neurotoxin (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin) and resurfacing  procedures like microneedling.

Under treatment of areas is not recommended and will lead to an incomplete effect that results in asymmetry and residual muscle movement. I assure you, my practice is artful and subtle.
